One of the College of Arts and Sciences’ best practices since time immemorial is honoring the students’ semi-annual academic performances. It is during this time that we give recognition to students who tirelessly made sure that they excel in their studies, amidst sleepless nights and challenges, in performing tasks, taking seatworks, quizzes, major exams, and submission of requirements.

With collaborative efforts of the College of Arts and Sciences Parents Faculty Council (CASPFC) officers and the CAS dean’s office personnel, the reading of honors was held on August 19 at the XU-AVR1.

Prior to the said event, individual letters were sent to parents of students who made it to the honor roll for the second semester of AY2016-2017.

For major programs under the Bachelor of Arts (Economics, English Language and Literature, History, International Studies, Sociology, and Philosophy), 32 students made it to first honors, 52 in second honors, and 94 in third honors.

Undergraduates in the Bachelor of Sciences major programs (Biology, Chemistry, Marine Biology, Mathematics, and Psychology) also made it to the list: 19 students in first honors, 50 in second honors, and 81 in third honors.

Dr Roderick Ocangas, chairperson of the Filipino Department lively hosted the event, that was highlighted by the presence of the 94 parents/guardians who supported their children’s achievements.

Reynaldo Bote, CASPEC president, encouraged both parents and students to strive more and Experience Excellence at Xavier University.

ArtScies dean Dr Juliet Q Dalagan encouraged the students to make better this school year 2017-2018, as there will be no more third honors.

Assistant dean Marichu M Obedencio lightened up the event by asking parents why they chose to send their children to Xavier University. One significant reply was XU graduates’ high marketability in applying for jobs.

Door prizes and refreshments were prepared and distributed by the CAS dean’s office and CASPFC Officers.∎
