The Center for Environment and Analytical Research and Services (CEARS) – the research and services arm of the Chemistry Department of Xavier University - Ateneo de Cagayan started the Chemical Technician Enrichment Series 2017 on July 15 and will be concluded on September 16.

This was the first opportunity for CEARS to hold the said enrichment series of this kind, participated by 12 non-licensed chemists who are currently holding positions as chemical laboratory analysts in different industries in the region. 

The series aims to provide professional technical assistance to chemists and chemistry enthusiasts in areas related to the practice of chemistry which should prove helpful especially to those preparing for the incoming first licensure examinations for Chemical Technicians on October 12, 2017. 

Topics on organic compounds and organic reactions were discussed by Melodina Estose and Dr Dorothy Peruelo. Important points on scientific calculations, periodic properties, gases, and electrochemistry were taken up by Dr Aileen Angcajas and  Higinio Barros Jr, while topics on sampling and sample preparation, instrumental analyses, quality control, and quality assurance were handled by Dr Heide Rabanes.  Waste management and laboratory safety and security were lectured by Jomarie Enerio. Higinio R Barros Jr served as the overall coordinator of the series.∎
