In line with the implementation of the new Commission on Higher Education (CHED) core courses for incoming college freshmen this June, who were the inaugural graduates of Grade 12, Xavier Ateneo has conducted an intensive five-day faculty training on the teaching of the new General Education Courses (GEC).

The event, held from April 16 to 20, was participated in by 186 faculty members from 26 Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) all over Mindanao and Luzon.

University chaplain Fr Roberto Archie R Carampatan SJ welcomed the participants to Xavier Ateneo during the opening ceremony on April 16 at the XU Little Theater.

The new CHED General Education Courses include Math in the Modern World, Understanding the Self, The Contemporary World, Readings in Philippine History, Purposive Communication, Ethics, Science, Technology and Society, Art Appreciation, and Life and Works of Rizal.

The trainers from Xavier Ateneo were:

Math in the Modern World – Carla Anadia
Understanding the Self – Janet Ibale and Jhoanna Mocorro
The Contemporary World – Gretchen Abuso and Caroline Serenas
Readings in Philippine History – Dr Roel Absin and Manilee Pagapulaan 
Purposive Communication – Lumin Sario and Red Sabela
Ethics – Milagros Rivera, Derrick Pimentel, and Vicente Carbon
Science, Technology, and Society – Dr Analyn Asok and Melodina Estose
Art Appreciation – Hobart Savior and Cathelyn Adajar
Life and Works of Rizal – Catalina Gaite

The said event culminated in a celebration of the Holy Eucharist at the University Church of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary and a graduation ceremony at the XU Little Theater.∎
