The College of Engineering , a Center of Development for Excellence for Computer Science Program, Center of Development – 1 for Electrical Engineering, and Center of Development – 2 for Chemical, Civil and Mechanical Programs, had very humble beginnings.
Its founding Dean, Engr. Ernesto B. San Juan who was in fact a part-time Dean at that time, manned the operations with the aid of only one full time instructor, Engr. Luis G. Oceña, and a student assistant.Having opened in 1979, it was holding classes at the second floor of the Science Center building.
The college eventually gained its niche in the academe and eventually, it was able to establish an Academe-Industry Linkage Program. In 1992, it entered into agreement with eight of the big industries in Northern Mindanao, the RI Chemical Corporation, Pilipinas Kao, Philippine Sinter Corporation, Del Monte Philippines, Mabuhay, Vinyl Corporation, Cagayan Electric Power and Light Company, Nestle Philippines, Proctor and Gamble Philippines, and the Iligan Cement Corporation.
As the college progressed, its partners soon included the BPI Foundation, Inc., the University of Portsmouth (United Kingdom), De La Salle University (Philippines), Royal Institute of Technology (Sweden), and the University Teknologi (Malaysia).
More importantly, it has produced studies and researches with the aim of serving the needs of Mindanao and the Filipino people, and aspires to lead the technological and infrastructure developments of the region.
