Xavier University – Ateneo de Cagayan is once again celebrating its annual Xavier University Festival Days. The five-day festivity commences on 29th November, and will last until 3rd December. This year's celebration underscores the timeless relevance of leadership and heroism as exemplified by our national hero, Dr Jose Rizal, whose 150th birthday is celebrated this year.
The theme for the 2011 Festival Days is Xavier Engage: Creating New Possibilities. It is anchored on Chris Lowney’s four pillars of Jesuit success from his book, “Heroic Leadership: Best Practices from a 450-Year-Old Company that Changed the World.” These are: Self Awareness - the basic foundation of leadership as leadership springs from within; Ingenuity - our ability to embrace change and be resilient in the face of catastrophe; Love - our sense of magis which becomes our personal leadership stance; and Heroism - having the energy to transform our communities just as Rizal, an Atenean, was a transformational leader.
Like last year, this year’s Festival Days will be more than presentations, exhibitions and competitions. It will be a call to action for all of us to step out of obscurity and become leaders. It is an invitation for everyone to be engaged.
Performances from Cagayan de Oro’s local bands, dance parties, theatrical plays, walk-in-movies, variety shows, friendly ball games, and many more fun-filled activities including classic favourites such as academic exhibits, food and apparel stalls, and horror house await the public.
University gate opens at 4pm this afternoon, and at 8am to 10 pm daily throughout the duration of Xavier Days.
