The RegionalScienceTeachingCenter is a special extension unit of XavierUniversity dedicated to improve the quality of science and mathematics education in its service area.

 
The following are the functions and responsibilities of the RSTC:
  • Conduct teacher training programs for both elementary and high school teachers according to identified regional needs;
  • Conduct researches in the fields of science and mathematics, particularly on the training programs undertaken by XU-RSTC;
  • Conduct science education projects for the communities within its service area;
  • Provide leadership role in science and mathematics activities in cooperation with DepEd, DOST, and other government offices;
  • Provide technical assistance in the implementation of science education activities in the network of science high schools;
  • Provide data to SEI, DepEd and schools to facilitate information exchange;
  • Cooperate with and provide SER with the needed information relevant to the various programs and projects implemented for monitoring and evaluation purposes;
  • Serve as clearinghouse of science and mathematics programs and activities, particularly those funded by DOST;
  • With SEI, undertake a continuing review/assessment of policies/programs on science education development projects funded by DOST and implemented in the RSTCs and other cooperating schools.
  • Undertake promotion work to encourage more quality students to take pre-service education programs in science and mathematics; and
  • Develop science education programs for possible funding of local and foreign cooperating agencies.
