The College of Education started to offer the four-year Bachelor of Science in Education after Ateneo de Cagayan reorganized and reopened post World War II.  However, the Elementary Teacher’s Certificates had already been given as early as 1940.  It was in 1986 that the present BEEd and BSEd Curricula were started.

Throughout its years, SOE has proven its excellence, worthy of being a center for educators in a Jesuit institution.  Its graduates topped the Elementary Teacher’s Competitive examination in 1969 both in the city and the provincial levels.  In 1991, Dixon Yasay became one of the 10 Outstanding Students of the Philippines and in 1996, the College of Education was chosen by the Commission on Higher Education as the Center of Excellence for Teacher Education.

In 2002, the college was awarded Intel Teach to the Future Implementer by Intel Philippines and in 2004, the Txt2Teach Implementer, awarded by BRIDGE it Project.  Finally, in 2006, it became what is now the School of Education.

Presently, after more than six decades of training the shapers of future generations, its Graduate Program has been given a Superior Rating by the Evaluation of Graduate Education in the Philippines (EGEP) and its undergraduate courses a Level III Accreditation by the Philippine Accrediting Association of Schools, Colleges and Universities (PAASCU).  It is also among the top performers in the Licensure Exams for Teachers.
