College of Nursing
The College of Nursing provides the community not only with graduates who are men and women for others, but Christian health workers and teachers as well, who possess commitment, caring attitude, strong, ethical and removal values, professional appearance, and adept technical skills.
The College offers the students a curricula built on the principles of strong liberal education and enhanced by religious instructions that will inculcate the Christian and traditional values of the people.
Its learning experiences seek to prepare the students for a responsible leadership role, promote to them a sensitivity to the realities of life, give them direction to what is right, just, and true, and develop in them an appreciation for what is good and beautiful. The experiences also aim to teach the students the fundamental skills and applications of research to improve life.
DEGREE PROGRAM
Bachelor of Science in Nursing with AHSE
All Xavier University nursing students begin with the 2-year Associate in Health Science Education (AHSE), a program promulgated by the Commission on Higher Education. A preparatory course, the AHSE leads up to another 2-year program, the completion of which earns for the student a degree of Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
A student registers for the professional nursing courses until he/she finishes the prescribed number of units in nursing theories, concepts and principles and render the required hours in Related Learning Experience (RLE).
Rationale of the AHSE Program
The common two-year preparatory program is an undergraduate program that will prepare students for entry into any of the health courses: Dentistry, Dietetics, Medical Technology, Medicine, Midwifery, Nursing, Nutrition, Occupational Therapy, Optometry, Physical Therapy, and Radiologic Technology. The 2-year preparatory course comprises the general education component of all Baccalaureate degrees leading to the Health Profession.
Upon completion of the two-year preparatory course, graduates are equipped with the appropriate competence to function as a primary health care provider. They shall be awarded with a certificate in Two-Year Association in Health Science Education.
