The Graduate School Research Orientation will introduce university grants to students conducting research works for this academic year.

This announcement came from a letter sent to graduate students via email on September 9. Undersigned by Graduate School dean Dr Catherine Roween Almaden, the letter provided details about the upcoming research orientation held annually.

The letter also served as an invitation to graduate students interested to participate.

For this year, the research orientation will take place at the Nursing Amphitheater on Saturday, September 28, from 8AM to 10AM.

The event will cover diverse research topics. Students completing their programs will present their outputs to fellow graduate students who would follow suit.

Not only will the research presentations and discussions provide new knowledge, these will also help generate ideas for students about to conduct the same undertaking.

Strengthening research initiatives

It can be noted that the Xavier Ateneo Graduate School is keen on strengthening research outputs. But in order to achieve this, the school is taking initiatives to new heights at it seeks to hone the skills of students enrolled in various programs.

Discussions in the upcoming research orientation will not be limited to the tools and efficiency needed to accomplish research outputs.

The event will also tackle the university policies and research ethics so that students can integrate the proper principles in completing their outputs.

This may include appropriate handling of resources to avoid possible conflict and confusion when conducting research.

To encourage graduate students’ participation, the orientation will instead be the alternative for the students’ attendance for classes happening at the same time. Classes will resume after the event.

The XU Graduate School will also announce available university grants to support students with their research works. Currently, the department is open to address inquiries at their office on the second floor of the Lucas Hall building, through their email (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.) or through 088-853-9800 (local 9453).

The registration fee will be charged from the participants’ tuition and will cover snacks and orientation materials, among others.

With the annual research orientation, the XU Graduate School hopes for students to take research works seriously not only as a class requirement or a pre-requisite to completing their programs but also as a contribution to the university’s wealth of knowledge.∎
