The Xavier Ateneo Graduate School is looking forward to conducting a research seminar on basic statistics this October. This is open to all graduate students enrolled in this academic year.

Set to take place at the XU Little Theater on Saturday, October 12, the seminar will cover topics that include descriptive statistics, inferential statistics, and their applications.

A letter sent to graduate students via email on September 21 gives details about the topics which the seminar will highlight. This will also pave the way for a better understanding of an overview of performing statistical analyses using MS Excel and other software as tools for acquiring accurate statistical data.

For students who had been introduced to similar topics in classes, these would serve as a refresher. The seminar will also be helpful for students conducting research which rely on statistical analyses to obtain conclusion.

Augmenting research works

“We require your attendance to the said seminar as this is one way to augment your research instruction as you work on your paper,” wrote Graduate School dean Dr Catherine Roween Almaden in the letter.

As a requirement, all classes for graduate students in the afternoon of that same day “will not be recited for this purpose.”

In the previous months, the XU Graduate School has put emphasis on their support for students conducting research works. As this undertaking is one of the most fundamental requirements in each program, it is open to provide assistance. Some of these are the research seminars underscoring topics which students may find challenging.

Students can reach the Graduate School Department for inquiries and the registration process. Contact is accessible through 853-9800 (local 9453) or 0906-743-9882 or through the XU Graduate School’s official email address This email address is being protected from spambots. The fee, however, will be charged from the graduate students’ tuition in the current semester. It will be inclusive of a set of kit, certification, and meals.

The research seminar on basic statistics, much like the research seminar in July which covered utilizing Mendeley as a tool for citation and literature review, is among the many initiatives that the Xavier Ateneo Graduate School is offering its students.∎
