CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY, Philippines — The Alpha Phi Omega alumni of Xavier University - Ateneo de Cagayan came home last month to celebrate their 50th anniversary since their recognition as a campus student organization in 1969.

The highlight of the celebration was the turnover of their jubilee project to Xavier Ateneo – the donation of ten 43” Samsung Full HD televisions intended for student services.

The donation was received on September 21 by XU VP for mission and ministry Irene Grace A Guitarte, director of student affairs Ivanell R Subrabas, and alumni affairs director Dr Virginia Lourdes C Yacapin.

In return, the group received a token of appreciation from Xavier Ateneo president Fr Roberto "Bobby" C Yap SJ for their jubilee project, following a reception at the Magis canteen.

Sixty-five alumni joined the jubilee homecoming and shared many stories about their activities as a campus student organization, such as doing regular clean-up drives, installation of garbage bins, and installation of wall clocks in classrooms.

They reminisced how then-XU president Fr Ernesto O Javier SJ would treat them to refreshments after their campus clean-up drives.

After the turnover program, they also had their pictures taken in their favorite campus spots – the Church of the Immaculate Conception, the concrete circular benches in front of the Science Center, and the open field behind the Church.∎
