Following the online Book Donation Turn-over Ceremony held last January 20, Xavier University – Ateneo de Cagayan has finally received 9 boxes of books from the Consulate General of the People’s Republic of China in Davao as a gesture of expanding and deepening China-Philippine educational and cultural exchange and cooperation.

Mr. Rule P. Redondo, Director of Libraries, on March 10, received a total of 479 books on behalf of the University. The books covered interesting subjects like the Chinese economy, philosophy, culture, science, history, health, sports, culinary and others.

Mr Redondo shared that most of the books were in Chinese language with English translation while there were also others which were purely in English. “ No doubt, these books are very beneficial to our students, faculty and even to our visiting researchers to enrich their knowledge and understanding about China”, he added.

The book donation was an initiative of the Consulate General which kicked off last November 21 with initial coordination and was sealed with a virtual turn over ceremony last January 20, attended also by University president Fr Mars P Tan SJ and the other school presidents and representatives of 8 other university-recipients in Mindanao namely : Ateneo de Davao University, Ateneo de Zamboanga University, Lyceum of the Philippines – Davao, Mindanao State University-Iligan Institute of Technology, Mindanao State University-Marawi, Notre Dame of Dadiangas University, University of Southeastern Philippines, University of the Philippines Mindanao.

This gesture of goodwill seeks to promote bilateral cultural and educational exchanges between China and Mindanao and establish stronger relations between the Consulate General and the partner-universities in Mindanao.
