The XU Night School Program-ALS was awarded 5th Place nationwide in the National Literacy Awards for the Outstanding Literacy Program category on December 1, 2022 at Wack Wack Golf and Country Club, Mandaluyong City.

The XUNSP-ALS was among the top five (5) finalists for the National Literacy Awards (NLA) 2022 and representing the Cagayan de Oro City and Region 10 in this category.

The awarding ceremony was spearheaded by DepEd Undersecretary and Chief of Staff Epimaco V. Densing III; Undersecretary for Curriculum and Instruction Ginna Gonong; and, Pasig City Representative and Literacy Coordinating Council Member Hon. Ramon T. Romulo.

The National Literacy Awards (NLA) is an award giving body in literacy by the Department of Education (DepEd) and the Literacy Coordinating Council (LCC) which  recognizes programs and projects that help alleviate poverty, provide livelihood, address social welfare needs, promote freedom, and make education facilitates more accessible. The NLA also recognizes the efforts and significant contribution in universalizing literacy in the Philippines.

City Councilor of Cagayan de Oro City and Chair on the Committee on Education, Hon. Suzzette Magtajas Daba, representing Cagayan de Oro City Mayor Hon. Rolando ‘Klarex” Uy; the Education Program Supervisor of ALS DepEd R10 Dr. Ray Butch D Mahinay; Division ALS Coordinator Ms. Juliet N Dolero; the Head of Oro Response and Processing Section Cagayan de Oro City Social Welfare and Development Norhidaya Hadji Sarip, RSW; and the Dean of Xavier-Ateneo School of Education, Dr Edralin C Manla attended the celebration and received the award.

Along with XUNSP-ALS, distinct and profound recognition was given to the entries of Region 10 such as the Municipality of Kauswagan, Lanao del Norte, which was awarded 1st place for the Outstanding Local Government Unit (4th-6th Class Municipality), and Sulads Philippines for the Special Awards of Excellence in Literacy.
