Xavier University Grade School, through its Faculty Club, organized a tree growing activity last November 30, 2022. Through a partnership with the XU Lands Office, the Xavier University Grade School Faculty League, Inc. planted seedlings of premium hardwood trees such as narra, bagalunga, molave, kamagong, and falcata on a hilly grassland owned by the university in Sumilao, Bukidnon.

Led by the XUGS Faculty Club President, Mr. Wilberto del Rosario, and the XU Basic Education co˗chaplain, Fr. Arman Samonte SJ, sixteen administrators, faculty, and staff braved the rainy weather to transplant the numerous seedlings they brought in the area. After a half day of laborious work, the group was able to plant more than 300 seedlings of endemic trees.

The tree growing activity is a response and a contribution to Laudato Si’s call to take care of our common home. It was funded by the Give Back to Mother Earth Fund raised by the XUGS Alumni Class of 2022.

The XUGS Faculty Club plans to visit the area in the next three months to monitor the growth of the trees planted
