Xavier University employees are now finally able to leave their children in a safe and enjoyable place while they are working. On April 17, Little Iggy Center began its pilot run with a simple blessing and program.

The blessing rites were led by University President Fr Mars P Tan, SJ. Guests included university administrators, representatives from organizing units (Human Resources Office and School of Education), and of course, parents and children who plan to avail of the center’s services. Aside from blessing the entire premises, Fr Mars also prayed for the children, parents, and teachers who will be using the place.

Aimed to have both a downtown and uptown site, the center is currently on its one-month pilot in the downtown campus. The center is envisioned to bring convenience to employees who are parents, so they can work freely without worrying if their children are safe and cared for. Children between the ages of 4 and 7 can spend their time making new friends and doing fun activities while waiting for their parents to pick them up.

The center is also integrated with the curriculum of the School of Education. It will enhance student learning by providing firsthand experience in observing and handling children to supplement the theories discussed in classes.

Little Iggy Center is open from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. A teacher and student teachers/interns will facilitate daily sessions consisting of circle time, activity time, rest time, and play time. Aside from learning materials, kids also have access to an outdoor play area. Children can stay in the center for half day or the whole day.
