Chona R. Echavez is currently the Director of the Research Institute for Mindanao Culture. She worked in various capacities as Sr. Researcher to Deputy Director and Interim Director of the Afghanistan Research and Evaluation Unit (AREU). She also served as a consultant to a number of international organisations and she has worked in Cambodia and in the Pacific Island Countries.

She has a Ph.D. in Demography from the Australian National University in Canberra and a Master’s degree in Development Communication with a cognate in Rural Sociology from the University of the Philippines at Los Banos. She completed her Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture from Xavier University, Cagayan de Oro City, Philippines.
