Last 26 October 2023, Xavier University - McKeough Marine Center (XU-MMC) successfully hosted its marine talks at AVR6 about how climate change influenced marine life in present times and in the future. The resource speaker at this event was the prestigious assistant professor from the University of the Philippines – Marine Science Institute, Dr Michael P Atrigenio, who is also the program head of the Professional Masters in Tropical Marine Ecosystems Management and the president of the Marine Environment and Resources Foundation. He talked about the impacts of climate change on marine organisms focusing on the “Blue” coral, Heliopora coerulea, responses to elevated temperature.

The event had a total of 50 participants, mostly biology and marine biology students and faculty. Dr Atrigenio also showcases the possible future studies and internship available in the field of marine science.

Overall, the event became a tool for the young students to open up their minds in the impacts of changing climate from the marine perspective. The students hoped that there would be more marine and biology engaging talks regarding on this matter.
