The aim of a Xavier education is the formation of an individual who is imbued with the following characteristics or qualities:

Academically Competent

By the time he/she shall have completed his/her secondary course at Xavier University High School, he/she shall have acquired a certain ease and facility in expression, both oral and written; he/she shall have acquired a capacity to adapt and apply himself/herself to the task at hand, at the same time giving evidence of knowledge and mastery of those subjects which shall prepare him/her for further studies.

A Well-Rounded Individual

He/She shall have developed or is developing sensibilities which cut across and go beyond merely academic concerns. His/Her sensibilities shall include an awareness and appreciation of music, literature and the arts; a familiarity or even a mastery of basic athletic skills through participation in sports and other athletic activities; he/she is or has been involved in activities which have resulted in more mature spiritual insights and a corresponding deeper religious experience all leading to the formation of a total person who is the product of a truly liberal, humanizing and well-rounded education.

Self-Disciplined

He/She has learned to appreciate the value of order, harmony, and efficiency in life, and he/she has made an effort to attain these on his/her own. He/She shall have acquired or is acquiring a more mature sense of responsibility for his/her actions - lending as well as finding support in external structures. As he/she grows in his/her mastery of self, he/she shall have learned how to manage his/her own individual needs, maintaining a proper balance over and against the needs of others and the larger community.

Loving

He/She is able to rise above self-interest and move beyond self-centeredness in his/her relationship with significant others. He/She has begun to enter into deeper levels of interpersonal relationships so that he/she can risk disclosure of self, while at the same time accepting and cherishing the mystery of the other person.

Though his/her attempts at loving are already beyond childhood but may not yet reflect the confidence and freedom of a matu

re person, he/she is nonetheless learning how to receive love graciously, as well as how to express it with warmth and care.

Religious and Christian

He/She is acquiring a basic knowledge of the major doctrines and practices of the Roman Catholic faith. He/She shall have  had  the opportunity of reflecting on his/her own religious sentiments, experiences, and beliefs - leading, hopefully, to the choice of a fundamental orientation  to  the person of Christ, and establishing a relationship with a religious tradition and/or community.

Culturally Integrated

He/She is acquiring a better understanding and a deeper appreciation of his/her own cultural heritage. He/She is becoming more conscious of his/her own  unique cultural identity, and is increasingly aware of the values, the customs and traditions which govern and influence his/her personal life.

He/She is beginning to see the need of achieving greater harmony within him/her as well as with others, - by understanding better and thus accepting these cultural heritages.
He/She has begun and is achieving some personal integration of the various cultural influences in his/her life, thus enabling him/her to understand and appreciate his/her role within the community which is Cagayan de Oro, the role of that community within the Filipino nation, the role of the Philippines in Asia, and indeed in the larger human family.

Committed to do Justice

He/She is acquiring or has acquired considerable knowledge and familiarity with the needs of the local as well as the larger Filipino community.  He/She is being prepared and at the same time preparing himself/herself for his/her own future participation as a competent, concerned, and responsible member of these communities.

He/She understands or is beginning to understand that his/her personal well-being is interrelated with the well-being of other people.  He/She is beginning to acquire or has acquired skills and the motivation necessary to live and act as a "Person-for-Others." And even though this attribute will perhaps come to fruition in mature adulthood, he/she has already begun to manifest some dispositions at this stage of his/her development and growth.

Open to Growth

He/She has matured  or is maturing physically, emotionally, intellectually, socially,  and spiritually - at a level which reflects some intentional responsibility for his/her own personal growth. And because he/she has been initiated into the charism of the Jesuit "MAGIS", that is, the spirit of a generous striving to do MORE, he/she is beginning to reach out for further development of his/her full potentials, and is continuously seeking opportunities to develop his/her personality, sharpen his/her intellect, broaden his/her imagination, explore his/her feelings, refine his/her tastes, and deepen his/her own religious convictions and other sensibilities.
