Good science requires the ethical practice of science. This includes personal conduct and professional standards as well as research ethics.

The principal consideration of research ethics and integrity at Xavier Ateneo is guided by the principles of duty to society, autonomy, beneficence and justice. Researchers should at all times comply with best practices to minimize risk and avoid harm, protect vulnerable groups and persons, and respect confidentiality and privacy.

All staff, students and research visitors engaged in research within the University, and externally on behalf of the University, must ensure that research is carried out responsibly in conformity with the law and in accordance with best current practice, irrespective of the source of funding. All research projects, including those funded by external funding sources, are subject to the same ethical review as all other research projects.

Review and approval by the applicable committee are required prior to the commencement of research.
