Xavier University - Ateneo de Cagayan distributes school handbooks to its students at the start of every academic year. In 2015, however, the university transformed its handbook to double as a planner with slambook-type and artistic features. The students welcomed and lauded the innovation, and have been looking forward to receiving the handbook-planner along with their new IDs.

The team for the SY2018-2019 handbook-planner did a survey as part of the post-evaluation of last year's design and contents. Upon careful deliberation, the team decided to go for a full-illustrative handbook-planner.

Inspirations were taken from coffee shop planners and millennial-themed publications. Illustrative styles that mimic doodle, raw sketches, and handmade crafts were also apparent in the pages. Among the illustration styles and inspirations used in The 2018 Xavier Ateneo Handbook and Planner were from artists Noritake and Teng Yu.
