In its second attempt, Xavier University - Ateneo de Cagayan was declared Overall 1st Runner-up and top performing private school in the Division Schools’ Press Conference (DSPC) 2018.
The three-day competition was held at four separate venues — Macasandig Covered Courts for the opening and closing ceremony, Macasandig Elementary School, South City Central School, and Cagayan de Oro National High School for contests — from September 17 to 19.
Xavier Ateneo campus journalists competed against 160 participating schools in Cagayan de Oro, with Juanito R Oliveria II, Maria Victoria Daroca, Jet Hokin Paclar, and Liesa Millan as school paper advisers and coaches.
Among the 2,413 contestants in this year’s event were winners coming from XU Junior and Senior High School.
The 10 winners from the individual categories with ranks ranging from first place to third will proceed to the Regional Schools’ Press Conference (RSPC) in Tangub City, Misamis Occidental.
This annual journalistic competition is pursuant to RA 7079 or the Campus Journalism Act of 1991.
This year’s press conference carried the theme “Fostering 21st Century Skills and Character-Based Education Through Campus Journalism.”∎
