Xavier University - Ateneo de Cagayan's Department of Economics, together with the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI)  Regional Office 10, conducted a forum on digital marketing and consumer online protection on Monday, October 22, at the XU Little Theater.

The forum was in line with the theme of the World Consumer Rights Day (WCRD), “Making Digital Marketplaces Fairer,” held last March of this year. This forum was aimed at promoting consumer protection and awareness, particularly among young consumers who are more exposed to the online marketplace.

XU Economics chairperson Caroline Laarni Rubio-Sereñas, in her opening remarks, explained the need to understand and regulate the emerging online market.

Keynote speaker Jalou Q Batilong of Syntactics Inc defined digital marketing and its parameters.

Other speakers comprising the panel included Ronald Miñoza of Streetby, Mark Anthony Quintana of Angkas, Acmilah Macabuat of the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT), Rozanne Marie San Juan of DTI, and Maria Veronica Pontillas of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI).

Various representatives from the Philippine National Police 10, senior high schools in the city, and key government agencies participated in the event.

DTI Misamis Oriental OIC director Almer A Masillones expressed her gratitude to the Xavier Ateneo Economics community for being a trusted partner in consumer protection. The XU Economics Society is an acknowledged consumer protection group in Northern Mindanao.∎
