Central Student Government (CSG)

As the 2022 National Elections came nearer, the political discussion among the youth also grew louder and the call to be registered, informed, and engaged in voting also resonated in the university student community. Leading the “Youth vote” was the Department of Mission and Social Involvement – Central Student Government through their project called PiVoted: Propelling the Youth to Vote. It was the first-ever installment of the XU-CSG to directly engage in voters' education with an aim to raise involvement in social engagement and civic participation among constituents. They invited prominent Filipino leaders across the nation as resource speakers of the program to educate voters and reinforce important principles in the political arena of the nearing elections. As observed, the program was also well-received by good numbers of participant turnouts from the university community.

Over 300 Zoom participants and Facebook Live Viewers, witnessed the talks on voters’ education. The project was designed as a crash course campaign to political education, where the speakers particularly delved into two essential topics, which are: understanding the essence of one’s vote as a right to exercise and knowing where one’s political ideology stands in the spectrum. Also on election topics, the project served as an avenue to portray ideal values necessary for the upcoming candidates and their election propaganda strategies. Based on the participant turnouts, the project attained its goals to educate young voters; positively change their knowledge, attitude, and behavior; convey the needed awareness of political ideologies through discourse, and connect with a wider network of partners. Despite all of it, the project was said to be just the first of the youth agenda and perhaps, greater initiatives will come for a more informed and engaged “Youth vote” in 2022.
