The Academic Libraries Book Acquisition Systems Association, Inc (ALBASA) is gearing up for its 40th anniversary celebration in May 2013.

Xavier University will be hosting the seminar-workshop on Resource Description and Access: Cataloguing Standards of the 21st Century on Oct 16-17.

Also included in their kick off activities are the ALBASA Ruby Jubilee Theme and the ALBASA Renaming contests. Entry forms are available from the University Libraries.


Mechanics for the ALBASA RUBY JUBILEE THEME Contest

  1. The contest is open to faculty, students, and librarians of institutions who are members of the Academic Libraries Book Acquisition Systems Association, INC. (ALBASA);
  2. It must be English with not less than 10 words and cannot exceed 20 words
  3. It must be relevant to the existence of ALBASA for the past forty (40) years of Ruby Jubilee
  4. The idea must be clear and original
  5. It must be catchy with commercial appeal and recall

The contest officially starts on September 1, 2012. Deadline for submission of entries will be on September 30, 2012.

Announcement and Awarding of the winning entry shall be on October 16, 2012 during the ALBASA Seminar-Workshop on RDA at Xavier University, Cagayan de Oro City. Winner will be chosen by a panel of judges.

The winning theme will be the official 2013 ALBASA RUBY JUBILEE THEME. A cash prize of Php 3,000.00 will be given to the winning entry plus a plaque of recognition for the institution

The winner will release all intellectual rights to ALBASA Inc and agrees to the use of the theme by the association and claim no ownership of such.

Criteria for Judging:

Relevance to the theme to the 40th ALBASA Celebration - 35%
Clarity of idea - 35%
Originality - 30%
TOTAL - 100%

Mechanics for the Renaming ALBASA Contest:

  1. The contest is open to faculty members, students, and librarians of institutions who are members of the Academic Libraries Book Acquisition Systems Association, INC. (ALBASA)
  2. The objective is to rename the existing ALBASA acronym
  3. Entry must be in English and its idea must evolve on the relevance of the association in today’s information and learning environment through the services and projects it offers to its members
  4. It must be catchy with commercial appeal and recall

ALBASA Inc will maintain full ownership upon submission of the entry. The winner will release all intellectual rights to ALBASA Inc and agrees to the use of the name by the association and claim no ownership of such.

Originality of the idea - 35%
Impact - 30%
