Xavier University has sent a Disaster Risk Reduction Management (DRRM) Team composed of students, faculty and staff to help in the relief operations for Typhoon Yolanda survivors in the towns of Medellin and Bantayan in Cebu.

The XU DRRM Team is composed of members from the College of Medicine with the German Doctors for Health and Sanitation (with European support for the construction of Ecological Sanitation toilets); the Kristohanong Katilingban sa Pagpakabana for Relief Distribution; the Psychology Department led by the Office of Mission and Ministry for Pyscho-Social Response; and the College of Engineering with international partners for Post-Disaster Needs Assessment. They will conduct their mission from Nov 20-26.

The Committee of German Doctors has provided the XU DRRM Team with additional medicine supplies for their medical mission. A pharmacy chain has also committed to give medicines. A private hospital in Medellin will serve as the team’s base station. They will join the German Doctors who are also operating in the area.
