Cinemagis is Northern Mindanao’s short film festival which aims to hail our filmmaking enthusiasts to reflect on Mindanao experiences, voices, aspirations and issues. Filmmakers are encouraged to draw inspirations from local lore, pressing realities through the renewal of the self and the community, and the diversity in Mindanao. Under the banner of Xavier University's Xavier Center for Culture and the Arts, the festival houses the entries from Cagayan de Oro and its neighboring municipalities and cities.

Cinemagis aims to recognize and strengthen the skills of our filmmakers to come up with significant body of works that will lead to national and international reception and recognitions, and contribute to the emerging film industry of Mindanao.

For this year, Cinemagis suggests the following themes:

  • Peace (inner peace, cultural solidarity, human rights, gender & development, harmony with the environment)
  • Governance
  • Environment
  • Health and sanitation
  • Food security
  • Cultural understanding and awareness
  • Life’s funny and subtle contradictions

Student Category

Requirements:

Currently enrolled in any school or university in Northern Mindanao

Résumé or bio data with two 2×2 ID pictures

One-page synopsis of the film

Certification from any authority or professor who attests to the material’s originality

Filled-out application form

Senior Category

Requirements:

Resident of Northern Mindanao (photocopy of resident certificate)  

Résumé or bio data with two 2×2 ID pictures

New Categories

A. 3 minute and 14 seconds (Pi) short film exemplifying an Ignatian value (magis, cura personalis or care for others, humility, conscience, pursuit of truth, among others)

B. 3 minute and 14 seconds (Pi) short film on Pope Francis’ encyclical, the “Laudato Si”

Filmmakers must submit their entries in H.264 Mpeg 4 AVC 710p/1080p 16:9 widescreen format to be placed on a flash drive or on DVD as data disc (submit 3 copies).

The filename should appear as: Category Title.mp4 (example: Student My Film.mp4).

Deadline of submission of entries is on December 27, until 9PM. All entries should be submitted to:
