Single, broken-hearted or happily in love.

These were the three choices that welcomed guests of the XU Soundtable’s concert for a cause titled “Rhythms of Love” at the XU Little Theater, Wednesday, February 10. The event was peppered with stories of love, songs of endearment and “hugot” lines.

Adding fun and humor was the free glow sticks giveaway. Upon entering the theater, guests were asked to pick a glow stick that symbolized their relationship status. Yellow glow sticks meant single yet independent, blue symbolized being in a complicated situation and red represented those who had already met their valentine.

“Tsada ni nga opportunity kay if single ka pwede ka maka-mingle,” XU Soundtable productions and promotions head June Batalla enthused.

The event started with a bang — literally with the intense beating of the drums. Everyone then jammed to OPM and Billboard top 100 hits.

Besides the music, English faculty member Roger Garcia brought the house down as the night’s love guru.

“Naa g’yud uban tao na sige og lalis pero bisag pangutanun kung love ba nila ang usa’t usa kai sige’g away, hala love man g’yapon daw. Unsaon nalang na nimo diba?” Garcia commented as the crowd went wild with laughter.

“Actually, happy kaayo mi sa hard work sa mga tao. Dili nako ma-express actually kay tungod wala mi nag-expect nga ingani ka-intense ang labas bitaw kay sa among heart contented mi,” said Batalla on the event’s success.

Forming part of Panaghugpong 8 - Xavier Arts Festival, the proceeds from the concert will be given to the Maria Foundation to support musically-inclined persons with disabilities.
