Xavier Philharmonia took the audience to a trip down the memory lane with their first concert for this school year titled "Auld Lang Syne" on the night of July 19 at the XU Little Theater.
At the "Auld Lang Syne" (which means “good old times”), Xavier Philharmonia's orchestral ensemble performed classical covers of Stephen Speaks' Out of My League, Up Dharma Down's Tadhana, Erik Satie’s Gymnopedie No 1, Klaus Badelt and Hans Zimmer's He's a Pirate, Ed Sheeran’s Photograph, David Crowder’s Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing, and A Great Big World’s Say Something as their encore presentation.
The songs they have chosen to cover, according to the classical ensemble, have evoked nostalgia and sentimentality from our past experiences, unrequited love, and humble beginnings.

The Xavier University Glee Club also performed Ogie Alcasid’s Kung Mawawala Ka, arranged by Arnel De Pano, as a special performance during the said concert.
"Thank you, everyone, for coming to our first concert this year," said Xavier Philharmonia’s artistic director Francis Joshua Arrabaca. "We have filled up the XU Little Theater tonight. Thank you for showing your appreciation of the classical music."
He encouraged the members of the audience, composed mostly of XU students, to watch more of their shows in the future and the productions of other performing arts companies of Xavier.
The classical ensemble will stage their next concert in November.
Arrabaca also shared that Xavier Philharmonia will start the XU Senior High School Violin Program, yet the details will be announced soon. He also invited Xavier students to audition for their orchestral ensemble or become part of their production staff.
NEW FLUTIST. Xavier Philharmonia presents the newest member of their classical ensemble, flutist Eunice Baliong, a Literature senior.
"Auld Lang Syne" formed part of the university’s performing arts series dubbed "Angat sa Sining: Reloaded."
Before the concert ended, Xavier Center for Culture and the Arts director Hobart Savior announced that the Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid (OSFA) has allotted ten scholarship slots to selected members of Xavier Philharmonia. ∎
