Celebrating the classic masterpiece of National Artist for Film Ishmael Bernal, the Xavier University Senior High School students taking up Media and Information Literacy (MIL), screened the film “Himala” (Miracle) at the Nursing Amphitheater on Wednesday, September 21.

This film, starring multi-awarded actress Nora Aunor, complements one of the course’s objectives to make students become more critical and evaluative in their media consumption.

“Using film as a learning material is a very good source because it is auditory and visual at the same time,” said Development Communication Department chairperson Evans Yonson.

“The student’s attention is really caught in one sitting,” he added.

Besides appreciating this Bernal's masterpiece, which brought international accolades to the country, this film-viewing activity was in consonance with the International Day of Peace and the Commemoration of the Declaration of Martial Law in 1972 — both were commemorated on Sept 21.

Students who watched the film were asked to tweet about their experience and insights on “Himala.” ∎
