As part of the third module of the Leadership for Convergence Program (LCP), the Southeast Asia Rural Social Leadership Institute (Searsolin) of Xavier University trained the field workers of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) on dealing with leadership challenges and conflict resolution.

LCP is a four-module program using the bridging leadership approach and is implemented by DSWD in partnership with different academic partners throughout the country.

Searsolin is handling the training for Region 10 (Northern Mindanao) and Caraga’s City/Municipality Action Team (C/MAT) leaders, building their capacities to become effective frontliners in various programs such as the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps), Sustainable Livelihood Program, and Kapit-Bisig Laban sa Kahirapan - Comprehensive Integrated Delivery of Social Service (KALAHI-CIDSS), among others.

The third module also covered topics on multi-stakeholders’ engagement, Kotter's "Eight-step Change Model," "Six Thinking Hats," and team management.

The workshop for Region 10 C/MAT leaders transpired from September 29 to October 1 at the Searsolin grounds and Manresa Tabuan Center. Nearly a hundred C/MAT leaders from Bukidnon, Misamis Oriental, Misamis Occidental, and Lanao del Sur participated in the program.

The training in Caraga followed from October 23 to 24 at San Lorenzo Ruiz de Manila Pastoral Center, Butuan City with 73 participants coming from Agusan del Sur, Agusan del Norte, Surigao del Sur, Surigao del Norte and Dinagat Islands.

Northern Mindanao and Caraga participants were asked to present their scorecards and summary of their community interventions.

Xavier’s development and community organizing experts Luther D Labitad (faculty-in-charge), Estrella E Taco-Borja, Engr Gail De la Rita, and Meiyoshi Masgon facilitated the different sessions, with the assistance from DSWD Caraga’s regional core of coaches.

The students are expected to deliver their personal narratives of their leadership journeys during their graduation in December. ∎
