The Governance and Leadership Institute (GLI) of Xavier University - Ateneo de Cagayan facilitated the barangay water governance workshop organized by Department of Interior and Local Government - Regional 10 (DILG-10) from March 1 to 3.

The said workshop was anchored on the human rights-based community organizing principles, where sessions included “The Governance of Water and Sanitation” by GLI director Dr Dixon Yasay, “Phases of Community Organizing” by Robert de la Serna, “Water System Management” by Corsine Salatan, and “Localized Customer Service Code” by Charito Araza.

Participants came from the municipalities of Opol and Binuangan in Misamis Oriental; Oroquieta City, Misamis Occidental; Manolo Fortich and Quezon, Bukidnon; and Bacolod, Lanao del Norte.

The workshop formed part of the “Sagana at Ligtas na Tubig sa Lahat Program” or SALINTUBIG, one of the government’s main actions in addressing the plight of Filipino households having no access to clean water supply.

Salintubig aims to contribute to the attainment of the global sustainable goal of providing potable water to the entire country.∎
