The Governance and Leadership Institute (GLI) of Xavier University - Ateneo de Cagayan recently facilitated the training and seminar on Water and Sanitation (WatSan) governance organized by the central office of the Department of Interior and Local Government under the Office of the Project Development Services.

Participants were the members of the Local Water and Sanitation Council from the different local government units (LGUs) of Regions 9 and 10: Kadingilan, Bukidnon; Mambajao, Sagay, and Catarman of Camiguin Province; Tagoloan, Salvador, and Nunungan of Lanao del Norte; Panaon and Tudela of Misamis Occidental; Aurora, Dimatiling, Margosatubig, Sominot, and Tambulig of Zamboanga del Sur; Labason, Sibuco, Sindangan, and Siocon of Zamboanga del Norte.

The seminar, held at Koresco Hotel in Pueblo de Oro, included sessions on the Principles of Water and Sanitation Governance, Systems Thinking, Understanding Challenges to Water, and Strategic Communication facilitated by GLI director Dr Dixon Yasay, GLI program coordinator Wilson Hormeguera, social development expert Engr Ermin Stan Pimentel, and XU consultant Robert de la Serna, respectively.

The training formed part of the Sagana at Ligtas na Tubig para sa Lahat (SALINTUBIG) Program which is aimed at setting up formal water services to waterless population and reducing the incidence of water-borne and sanitation-related diseases.∎
