Xavier University - Ateneo de Cagayan High School Crusaders football boys’ varsity team went toe-to-toe with the best teams in the city and region, specifically in the 18-and-under category, in the recent Magis Football Club Fiesta Cup 2017 held at the Westridge Sports Park on July 15 and 16.

The boys swept through the elimination round, defeating teams from Corpus Christi, Salay National High School, and Rosevale.

In the quarterfinals, their mettle was tested by the Team A of the Central Mindanao University (CMU). After the regulation has ended, the Xavier Ateneo team managed to rack up more goals during the penalty shoot-out against their tough opponent, winning with a score of 4 against 2; XUHS won over CMU.

During the semifinals, the Crusaders were able to overcome another “cardiac-arrest” game. Prevailing over powerhouse Rosevale football team to the tune of 4 against 3 in the shootout, the Crusaders football boys then advanced into the finals.

However, they fell short in the campaign as they battled against the Holy Cross team, reputed as one of the best teams in the region, as known in the football community in Mindanao.
