"Health is a right and as a right, the government must be able to provide it," emphasized Xavier Ateneo Governance Leadership Institute (GLI) director Dr Dixon Yasay at the Barangay Health Leadership and Governance Program, held from October 24 to 26 in Initao, Misamis Oriental.

The training course was attended by the barangay chairmen, barangay councilors for health, and local health workers, composing the second batch of the participants hailed from the barangays of Cagayan de Oro: Bulua, Canitoan, Carmen, Consolacion, Iponan, Kauswagan, Lumbia, Macasandig, Nazareth, and Puntod.

The training sessions included workshops on realizing present health condition of the barangay, the right to health and accountability, leadership journey and health vision, the health leadership team and the multi-stakeholders, and the challenges of 3 Delays Model.

The entire training program is anchored on the Bridging Leadership Framework.

"This training has made barangay leaders more accountable of their responsibilities in ensuring delivery of health services at the community level," said CdeO city health officer Dr Rachel Dilla.

The Barangay Health Leadership and Governance Program is a partnership program between XU-GLI and the CdeO city government through the City Mayor's Office, City Health Office, and CdeO City Health Leadership Team.∎
