Xavier University - Governance and Leadership Institute (XU-GLI), together with Seaoil Foundation and the Office of the Vice President (OVP) of the Republic of the Philippines, completed the third module of the Bridging Leadership framework and last phase of the Angat Buhay leadership and fellowship program for Mindanao cluster, held from November 28 to 29 at the Apple Tree Resort Hotel in Opol, Misamis Oriental.

The first and second modules were on the immersion and engagement which were held in the same venue last May 17-18 and August 23-24, respectively.

Two local chief executives, Mayor Clive Quiño of Manolo Fortich and Mayor Jose Antonio Villo of Sumilao, along with 12 other government officers from the municipalities of Manolo Fortich, Sumilao, and Lantapan in Bukidnon; Kauswagan and Tangcal in Lanao del Norte; and Tampakan in South Cotabato attended the said result-driven phase of the program.

Angat Buhay is the advocacy arm of the office of Vice President Leni Robredo which aims to alleviate poverty especially those in the laylayan (marginalized sectors) through partnerships and in this case, building linkages with Seaoil Foundation, XU-GLI, and Mindanao LGUs. 

Also present and overseeing the proceedings were Angat Buhay deputy head Atty Aison Garcia, Angat Buhay Bridging Leadership coordinator Dr Sherwin Pontanilla, and program officer Charmaine Pineda.

The resource persons were XU-GLI training facilitator Wilson Hormeguera, Innovations for Poverty Action Philippines policy associate Riza Halili, Angat Buhay Bridging Leadership coordinator Dr Sherwin Pontanilla, XU’s Tabang Marawi project leader  Robert de la Serna, XU Development Communication faculty member and Angat Buhay fellow Estrella Borja, and XU Philosophy professor Derrick Pimentel.

Among the topics tackled in the sessions were monitoring and evaluation, adaptive leadership, team development, Six Thinking Hats, conflict management, and Kotter’s 8-Step Change Model.∎
