The Admission and Aid Office (AAO) of Xavier University announced today that full scholarships will be given to the top 100 passers from the pool of 3,717 students who recently took the admission exam for Xavier Ateneo Senior High School.
CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY, Philippines – Xavier University - Ateneo de Cagayan, under its expanded financial aid program, has offered generous scholarships to the top 100 (including pairs tied in different ranks) passers out of the 3,717 students who took the senior high school admission exam for the forthcoming academic year 2018-2019.
Named the “XUSHS President’s Scholars,” the top 10 passers are entitled to free tuition, matriculation, laboratory and other school fees, plus up to Php5,000 allowance for books and uniforms per year.
The top 11 to 35, otherwise known as “XUSHS Merit Scholars,” will receive free tuition, matriculation, laboratory and other school fees.
The remaining top 36 to 100, called the “XUSHS Academic Scholars,” will enjoy full tuition and matriculation coverage in senior high school.
“We are overwhelmed by the number of applicants who wanted to be admitted to our senior high school and we thank them for their interest in Xavier Ateneo,” said university president Fr Roberto C Yap SJ.
“This year, we have expanded our scholarships to accommodate more students from different backgrounds who are academically-competent and dedicated to pursuing excellence. As in the university’s 84 years of existence, our Xavier Ateneo scholars have made great contributions to society and we believe this new batch of scholars will do the same in the future,” he added.
Xavier Ateneo’s Admissions and Aid Office (AAO) released the much-anticipated master list of admission qualifiers on Tuesday, February 20.
Thirty-eight of the top passers are from XU Junior High School, nine are from Central Mindanao University Laboratory High School, eight each are from Mindanao State University and Gusa Regional Science High School, four are from Bukidnon National High School, and 37 are from other schools.
The top passers were among the 469 students of the current JHS batch of Xavier Ateneo automatically qualified for its senior high and the 3,248 other 10th-graders who took admission exams.
The selection was primarily based on their performance in the XU senior high scholastic ability exam, a standardized test that measures the aptitude and readiness of the students for SHS, following the country’s shift to a K+12 Basic Education.
The qualifying exams for non-XUSHS students were conducted in January 2018 in the cities of Cagayan de Oro (Xavier Ateneo Testing Center), Malaybalay (Bukidnon National High School), and Iligan (Iligan National High School), and in the municipality of Mambajao in Camiguin (Mambajao National High School).
“Our priority is that Xavier Ateneo remains affordable and accessible to competent and talented students, regardless of their financial circumstances. Our scholarship and financial aid programs make it easier for our students and their parents to thrive at XU,” Yap shared. “The information on how to apply for a scholarship is also available on our website and social media accounts.”
“We want the best students to enroll at XU. This scholarship is a demonstration of Xavier Ateneo’s commitment as a Jesuit higher education institution towards providing quality education and excellent future for our students,” Yap said.
Annual costs (two semesters) for a regular full-load student at XU average close to Php60,000 before any financial aid (actual costs vary per strand).
Xavier Ateneo offers Academic (STEM, ABM, GAS, and HUMMS strands) and Technical-Vocational tracks for senior high (Grade 11-12).
The top qualified incoming senior high school students have until March 15 to accept the scholarship offer of Xavier Ateneo — one of the premier universities, not just in the Philippines but in Asia.∎
