Aiming to equip and give students tips in doing their research, the fourth-year Development Communication students organized the second “This is it, Thesis it!” seminar, held at the XU Nursing Amphitheater on February 8.

As part of this year’s DevCom Week celebration and the department’s 40th anniversary, the event drew together junior high and college students from various schools, namely, Mary Mount Academy, Misamis Oriental Comprehensive High School (MOGCHS), St Mary’s Academy of Carmen, Macabalan National High School, Macanhan National High School, Bulua National High School, Bukidnon State University (BSU), University of Science and Technology of the Southern Philippines (USTP), Xavier Ateneo, and Mindanao State University Marawi (MSU).

High-caliber speakers in the field of research imparted their experiences and knowledge on how to make research appealing to the millennials.

The speakers were Dr Adrilene Mae Castaños, who came all the way from Butuan City, and Dr Jovelyn Delosa, dean of XU School of Education.

“If it’s close to your heart then you have the passion for it,” Castaños stressed as she elaborated on finding the essence of your topic in research.

RESEARCH WITH THE HEART. Dr Adrilene Mae Castaños from Butuan City tells the audience at the 2nd "This is it, Thesis it!” seminar, “If it’s close to your heart then you have the passion for it” on finding the essence of your topic in research.

The participants went to different AVRs on the campus to listen and observe the thesis presentations. Each AVR exhibited a set of theses with related themes.

“’This is it, Thesis it!’ is a seminar class (DC32) output of the senior Xavier Ateneo DevCom students. From conceiving the program to the planning of the event, the invitation of guests to logistical representatives, venue, food, and program were all done by the students,” shared XU DevCom dept chairman Evans Yonson.

“It’s an application class where they experience successes and failures. But in the end, they learn both individually and as an entire batch,” he added.
