The College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) of Xavier University - Ateneo de Cagayan has recently held the ArtScies Festival, participated by senior high students and their teachers from various schools.

ArtScies dean Dr Juliet Q Dalagan highlighted in her welcome message to the participants the relevance of February as the month of love. 

The featured talks received some cheers and blushes from the participants. Dr Arlene J Yandug of the English department spoke on the language of love, Janet O Ibale of the Psychology department discussed on the psychology of love, Joseph Bibal of the Philosophy department expressed in a special video his views on the philosophy of love, and Adlai Valledor shared his thoughts on the theology of love. 

The said opening ceremony was hosted by Rogelio Lee of the XU Center for Integrated Technologies.  

The ArtScies Festival also included several interschool parallel competitions, which followed the opening ceremony.

Eric Dotarot of Lourdes Collge SHS emerged as the champion in the poster-making contest, Julian Narvasa from Corpus Christi placed second, and Fritz Michael Villanueva of Oro Christian Grace School ranked third. 

In the spoken word poetry tilt, Jessa Mae Lumbay of St Mary’s Academy of Carmen won the first place. Jo Antonette Cañete from Corpus Christ and Shellou Grace Sanchez from Cagayan de Oro National High School ranked second and third, respectively.

In the impromptu speech contest (English category), Lorenzo Lagamon of St Mary’s School took home the championship, Yohann Abejo of Xavier Ateneo Senior High landed on second place, and Josef Al Carmel Obenza of Corpus Christi ranked third. 

For the Filipino category of the impromptu speech contest, first place went to John Paulie Undag of Capitol University, second place went to Benigno Catipay of Xavier University, and the third place was won by Dave Chanler Ipulan of Lourdes College. 

In the quiz bee, the team from St Mary’s School - Mandumol was hailed as the champion, Nanuri International School team placed second, and the Corpus Christi School group got the 3rd place.

After the contests, the students had a campus tour to get a glimpse of the academic ambiance of Xavier Ateneo and to check out some of its amenities and facilities. 

The said activity, directed by Tyron Sabal of the Philosophy department, was supported by the ArtScies administrators, faculty, and staff.
