Endorsement for the XU Campus of the Future

I am greatly delighted with the plans for the new campus of Xavier University in Manresa, Upper Balulang, Cagayan de Oro City for three reasons.

First, the Manresa campus can get enough student enrollees.  The surrounding and nearby residential subdivisions (e.g., Pueblo de Oro, Xavier Heights, Xavier Estates, Camella Homes, etc.) and the wide, undeveloped areas with potential for development in the neighboring Barangays of Lumbia, Canitoan, Carmen, Bulua, etc. will shift the centers of population and development toward the direction of Manresa in the next 20-30 years.  These new population centers will provide a clientele to the Manresa campus.

Second, the Manresa campus can be accessed from many western barangays, municipalities, and provinces thru the government infrastructure developments that are going on. Existing roads from Barangays Carmen and Lumbia and the Municipalities of Talakag and Opol toward Manresa are being widened into 4 lanes and can still be further widened in the future. New roads along Barangays Bulua, Canitoan, Taguanao and the Municipalities of Opol, El Salvador, etc. are being built going toward Manresa. People from the provinces of Bukidnon and Lanao del Sur can travel thru the widened Talakag-Lumbia road to Manresa. People from the provinces of Lanao del Norte and Misamis Occidental can travel thru the new Opol-Canitoan road to Manresa. To cater to the eastern side of Cagayan de Oro City, new bridges have been built (e.g., Emmanuel Pelaez Bridge, Balulang-Macasandig Bridge, Nazareth-Carmen Bridge, JR Borja-Vamenta Bridge) and more bridges can be built in the future across Cagayan River and toward Manresa. 

Finally, the Xavier University Campus of the Future will showcase XU’s advocacy for Pope Francis’ Laudato Si (promoting care for our common home) with an eco-friendly and green environment including a forest area that will be maintained in Manresa.       

These infrastructure developments and her reputation of academic excellence with distinct Jesuit formation will surely continue to attract students to study in the new Masterson campus of Xavier University.
