In a move getting closer to the materialization of the architectural design for the New Masterson Campus, the Campus of the Future Executive Committee of Xavier University-Ateneo de Cagayan, representatives of Cebu Landmasters Inc, and the architectural team of Aidea Inc held a kickoff activity at the XU-AVR 1 on 17 October 2023 to jumpstart the architectural design process of the future site of Xavier Ateneo.

The Campus of the Future Execom was led by University President Fr Mars P Tan SJ, Board of Trustees Vice Chair Mr Eduardo F Pelaez and trustee Ms Emma A Nieva. All members of the Execom were also present to participate in the meeting. CLI was represented by Architects Michael Sugano and Jun Saso. Aidea’s Founder, CEO and President Architect Abelardo M Tolentino, Jr spearheaded his team in the discussion and presentation of their proposed project delivery process. With him are Architects Ricardo A. Reyes and Trey Mariano.

During the presentation, Architect Tolentino emphasized that Aidea puts premium on their partnership with their clients. He explained that their design process engages XU in a succession of brainstorming, FGDs and workshop as they see the owners, XU, as “co-creators” in the goal of coming up with a campus that everyone “can be proud of.” Members of the XU Execom took part in the discussion as important considerations were outlined in shaping the New Campus. Highlighted were important points such as the rise of non-conventional jobs, the generational changes, Ignatian values, University goals, culture, social equity, role of campus in Mindanao, Institutional innovations, lifelong partnership with students, environment and wellness, and autonomous buildings, among others. 

Fr Mars expressed his gratefulness on the detailed process presented by Aidea and said he is optimistic and excited about XU’s involvement in the fulfillment of the design that will embody XU’s values, culture, and vision to be a leading ASEAN university by 2033. He also maintained that the focal point in the architectural design of the Campus of the Future is XU’s holistic formation strengthened by the Ignatian values as its guiding principle.

A series of activities on the design process is expected between XU and Aidea in the coming days. The XU community deems this a vital development in the construction of the Campus of the Future.
