MAKATI CITY, Philippines — Two Xavier Ateneo Chemistry graduates, Yumi Jane Encarquez and Christler Dave Pacamo, were among the 25 outstanding science-driven students in the country recognized by the Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI) and the Department of Science and Technology (DOST).

The 29th BPI-DOST Science Awards pushed for innovation with this year’s theme, “Forming a Sustainable Country through Science and Innovation.”

The studies of Encarquez and Pacamo are on the "Evaluation of Antioxidant Potential and Cytotoxic Activity of Green-synthesized Silver Nanoparticles from Aqueous Extract of Annona muricata Peel" and "Biosorption-Desorption Studies of Modified Calamansi Peel (x Citrofortunella microcarpa) using Aqueous Lead Solution," respectively.

Encarquez and Pacamo graduated from Xavier Ateneo in March 2018.

The awarding ceremony was held last June 6 at the Makati Sports Club.

Each awardee received a cash prize worth Php10,000.00 and a medal.

This annual event aims to inspire young and brilliant minds to contribute to the development of science and technology in the Philippines and beyond.∎
