The History/Political Science/International Studies Department at the College of Arts and Sciences of Xavier University – Ateneo de Cagayan is proud to announce that four groups of graduating senior AB International Studies students presented their research papers at a recently concluded International Social Science Conference. The 2024 Conference of Philippine Sociologists provided a platform for these promising young students to share their academic work on a global stage to share insights on a variety of topics, including the intersections of colonialism with collaborative and multi-actor partnerships for implementation, the timelines of ASEAN energy policy, territorial dispute resolution, and responsible consumption and production.

Undergraduate theses are a mandatory requirement for the completion of the undergraduate social science degree at Xavier Ateneo. Each research project addressed at least one of the 17 United Nations Development Goals, demonstrating Xavier Ateneo’s commitment to addressing pressing global challenges.

The participation of these students in the international conference is a testament to the high quality of research being conducted by the university's undergraduate students. Their achievements exceed expectations and highlight the potential for undergraduate research to significantly impact the academic community and beyond. We thank Mr Don Antonio Velez, Assistant Professor of Sociology, for supervising and directing all four (4) of these faculty-student researches and mentoring our students to achieve and demonstrate academic competence and social engagement.

Xavier Ateneo’s recognizes the hard work, dedication, and a passion of our students for learning that lead to this remarkable achievement. By presenting their undergraduate research at a global stage, these twenty (20) remarkable students have not only contributed to the broader understanding of their field of study but have represented Xavier Ateneo and embodied the Filipino, Catholic, and Jesuit brand of distinction in education.
