She is a tenured Associate Professor in Southeast Asian Studies, Department of Asian Languages and Cultures, University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). Previously, she was an Assistant Professor at the National University of Singapore from 2011 to 2019, and Strom Visiting Professor at the University of Toronto in 2017. She hails from Medina, Misamis Oriental province in Mindanao, and holds both masters and doctorate degrees in Anthropology from Arizona State University.
