Xavier Ateneo's 2024 Graduate Research Forum
The 2024 Graduate Research Forum at Xavier University - Ateneo de Cagayan was held online, offering a platform for students and faculty to present and discuss their research innovations and insights. The virtual event enabled participation from a wide audience, highlighting the university's adaptability and commitment to academic excellence.
Morning Session: Keynote and Academic Engagement
The forum began with a registration session at 7:45 AM, conducted via Zoom, followed by an invocation and the Xavier University Hymn. Dr Juliet Q Dalagan, Vice President for Higher Education, delivered a welcome address, underscoring the significance of the forum in fostering academic dialogue and research collaboration.
The keynote speech was delivered by Dr Christopher Sean Lee, a distinguished Professor and Associate Dean for Research at the William F Connell School of Nursing, Boston College. His presentation, titled "Data Analytics: Innovations and Applications in Xavier Ateneo Graduate Research," explored the transformative potential of data analytics in enhancing research methodologies and outcomes. The address was followed by an interactive Q&A session, allowing participants to engage with Dr Lee and discuss the applications of data analytics in various fields.
The morning session also included the launch of the Xavier Ateneo Journal of Multidisciplinary Studies, presented by Dr Mary Rachelle Wapaño, Associate Dean of the Office of Graduate Studies. This new journal aims to provide a platform for publishing high-quality research across multiple disciplines, fostering academic growth and collaboration.
Afternoon Session: Graduate Research Presentations
The afternoon session, chaired by Jerelyn B Medalla, Associate Dean of the College of Agriculture, featured a series of presentations from graduate students. These presentations, each lasting 15 minutes, showcased a diverse array of research topics, reflecting the multidisciplinary nature of the forum.
- Peannie Lyn Artianza presented on "Technology and Livelihood Education Specialization Recommender’s System for Junior High School Students of Bukidnon National High School," highlighting advancements in educational technology.
- Angel May M Buhisan & Kayle Erika Shayne P Nayal shared a qualitative study on the "Experiences and Motivation of Filipino Healthcare Professionals in Pre-and Post-COVID-19 Pandemic," providing insights into the healthcare sector's evolving challenges.
- Krisha June A Burgos explored economic theories in her presentation on "Unemployment and Economic Growth: Does Okun’s Law Apply to Northern Mindanao, Philippines?"
- Fidel M Cambare discussed the readiness of business students in "The Level of Knowledge of BSMA Students to Engage as Tax Practitioners After Graduation."
- Allyn Kristia I Garcia examined the psychological impacts of the pandemic in "The Lived Experiences of COVID-19 Survivors."
- Gina S. Itchon MD; Engr Dexter S Lo; Engr Jefferson Vallente JR analyzed healthcare system vulnerabilities in "Risk to Failure of a Functional Local Healthcare System: The Case of Cagayan de Oro City, Philippines."
- Jefferson C Lim highlighted the challenges faced by migrant workers in "The Triumphs and Travails of Selected Overseas Filipino Workers in the United Arab Emirates."
- Lindy P Valdevilla discussed local governance in "Extent of Implementation of Gingoog City Ordinance 2021-370."
The session concluded with a comprehensive Q&A segment, providing an opportunity for participants to engage with the presenters, followed by a wrap-up and closing remarks.
