Himig Atenista

Himig Atenista is the premier and only song-writing competition of Xavier University organized by the Office of Student Affairs through Atenista Ako Movement.

Launched in 2011 and runs biennially, Himig Atenista opens opportunities to aspiring and budding songwriters of Xavier Ateneo from Junior High School, Senior High School, Undergraduate and Graduate levels including alumni to harness their skills and talents through original songs.

In 2011, the competition was aptly called Himig Atenista. In 2013, it highlighted the University’s 80th year through the theme “Walong Dekada”. Channelling the idea that music is for everyone, it adopted the theme “Musika Natin ‘To!” in 2015. In response to Xavier Ateneo’s call for excellence in 2017, the contest was titled “Husay sa Musika, Galing Atenista!”

This year, Himig Atenista shines the spotlight on the colorful and memorable Atenean stories with the theme “Sharing Atenean Stories.” The competition intends to capture and tell fond and memorable moments of Xavier Ateneans may it be about their first times, true love or puppy love, friendships, ever-after, hugot-filled or heart-breaking memories, disappointments, triumphs and defeats, defining moments, or the times when they have touched someone’s life.

As we say it, behind every song is a story. Through Himig Atenista, Ateneans have definitely parlayed a shared musical experience into something significant and memorable.

We call for original compositions from aspiring and budding composers from Xavier Ateneo Junior High, Senior High, College and Graduate levels. Alumni are also welcome to send their original compositions.

Launched in 2011 and runs biennially, Himig Atenista opens opportunities to students and young alumni to harness their skills and talents through original compositions that express the life and growth of the University. Through the years, the competition has inspired Atenean talents to parlay a shared musical experience into something significant and memorable.

This year’s theme Husay sa Musika, Galing Atenista! shines the spotlight on celebrating Xavier Ateneo’s tradition of excellence in its various pursuits (eg academics, formation, social engagement, etc), exemplifying magis as the core of its narrative of being a world-class institution.

In three easy steps, interested applicants just need to fill out the entry form, record their songs, which must not be longer than four minutes and submit their entry to Atenista Ako Movement.
