At the heart of Xavier University-Ateneo de Cagayan’s mission lies a steadfast belief that education is the cornerstone of human and social transformation. Guided by its Ignatian vision of forming persons for and with others, the university continues to uphold its legacy of educational excellence and inclusivity in Northern Mindanao and beyond.

Empowering the Next Generation of Teachers

In 2024 alone, Xavier Ateneo produced 1,665 graduates holding teaching qualifications, including 14 who are qualified to teach at the primary level. These figures demonstrate the university’s enduring commitment to building the next generation of educators who will serve in schools, communities, and development sectors across the country. Each graduate represents a tangible expression of Xavier Ateneo’s goal—to expand access to quality education and nurture competent, compassionate, and committed teachers who embody the Jesuit ideals of magis and cura personalis.

Education Beyond Borders

In pursuit of SDG 4’s call for lifelong learning opportunities, Xavier Ateneo continues to extend its educational reach beyond its enrolled student body. Through the Agro-Entrepreneurship for Inclusive Value Chains Training Program implemented in partnership with the Jollibee Group Foundation, the university provides free professional learning opportunities for individuals and organizations engaged in agriculture and rural enterprise development.

Innovation in Teaching

As education systems continue to evolve in response to global challenges, Xavier Ateneo remains at the forefront of teacher education research and innovation. In partnership with Northern Bukidnon State College (NBSC), the School of Education of the university hosted the sixth installment of the International Teacher Education Research Conference (TERC) from 16-18 May 2024, focusing on the transformative potential of technology in education.

Bridging Classrooms and Communities through Service-Learning

Xavier Ateneo’s Service-Learning Program (SLP) stands as a hallmark of its holistic approach to education. Anchored in the university’s mission to form socially engaged citizens, the program integrates academic instruction with community immersion and reflection.

In May 2024, the university hosted the Service-Learning Summit themed “Harnessing Education and Service for Sustainable Development.” The event brought together faculty, students, local government units, non-profit organizations, and community partners to showcase service-learning projects across disciplines—from public health and environmental management to livelihood, education, and technology innovation.

Expanding Access through Lifelong Learning Opportunities

As part of its advocacy for lifelong learning, Xavier Ateneo continues to host executive and vocational training programs that reach beyond traditional degree offerings. One such initiative was the IRODORI A1 Teachers’ Training held in collaboration with the Japan Foundation, Manila, and the Association of Nihongo Teachers in the Visayas.

Building First-Generation Success

In its ongoing pursuit of educational inclusion, Xavier Ateneo proudly welcomed 217 first-generation college students in 2024. These students are the first in their families to pursue higher education, representing the university’s widening reach to underrepresented groups and communities.

Through scholarships, mentoring, and academic support services, the university ensures that these students are not only admitted but are also equipped to thrive. Their success stories embody the transformative power of education—empowering families and communities to envision brighter futures through learning.

Forming Learners for a Lifetime

Xavier Ateneo’s efforts reflect its holistic approach to human formation—integrating academic excellence, social engagement, and lifelong learning. From training future teachers to hosting global research platforms and community-based programs, Xavier Ateneo continues to champion education as a right, a responsibility, and a powerful means for social transformation.

Through these initiatives, the university not only strengthens the quality and accessibility of education but also embodies the Jesuit value of magis—to serve more, to serve better, and to serve with love.
