The Urban Ecosystems Research and Development Bureau (UERDB), the research arm of DENR, is currently implementing a program entitled “Promoting Ecosystems Health and Sustainability of Urban Areas through Research and Development” which aims to generate technology for an efficient, responsive and enabling environment for sustainable urban ecosystem management. Xavier University-Ateneo de Cagayan has been identified as one of the sites for a study on “Ecological assessment of parks, green spaces and school mini-forest in urban areas” aimed to determine the biodiversity resources in selected urban areas.
On July 20, 2016, a group of experts from UERDB, Laguna and CLENRO visited XU to conduct biodiversity assessment and characterization of microhabitats and rapid urban assessment among others. The findings of the assessment will be communicated to Xavier University to further improve its tree management practices.
