It is our goal to become a zero waste campus. In line with this direction, the administration will continue to improve its operation and will further find ways and means to properly manage our solid waste.

Existing facilities on campus:
1. Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) - this facility temporarily stores all the recyclable materials (clear/coloured PET bottles, cartons, papers, aluminum cans, (thick) plastic cups) collected on campus. These materials will be sold to a junk shop. MRF fund are kept in a special account at the Finance Office. Fund will be used to support projects related to the environment

2.Vermicomposting Facility - this facility is where our yard waste and other biodegradable materials and turn them into organic fertilizer with the aid of earthworms.

3. (soft) Plastic waste recycling - In order to reduce our waste disposal to the city dumpsite, we partner with Global Land for plastic recycling. All the soft plastic (sando bag, tetra pack, junk food/milk/coffee/candy wrapper, plastic straw) collected in our campus will be delivered to Global Land where it will processed into school chairs which will later be given back to XU.

Residual wastes are waste being disposed to the city dumpsite. With the solid waste management program of the university, residual waste generation decreased to 5.39% from 2014-2015.

Here’s an update on the waste collected at Magis canteen from January to July (2014-2016).

Magis Habit was implemented on October 2015 while bento box was implemented last February 2016. The data showed 33.35% decrease in collected canteen waste.

Annual yield of vermicast increased to 153% from SY 2014-2015. There organic fertilizer will be applied to plants on campus.

From SY 2014 to 2015, recyclable wastes collected, recovered and stored in the Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) on campus increased to 58.33%. Recyclable wastes include clear/colored mineral water bottle/softdrink, aluminum can, carton, paper, plastic cups). The MRF accommodates 2500kg of recyclable materials per month.
