The program was designed to facilitate the economic community from the R3 (ridge, rivers & reef). It was identified that coming from the ridge are the indigenous people who possesses the non-timber forest products , in the rivers are internally displaced person which are victims of floods and other catastrophic events and from the reef are the women’s group and youths near the coastal area.

The centers role is to be a hub that will pull the resources coming from the academe, government and non-government organizations to conduct seminars and trainings that will build the capacity of the clientele in becoming equipped with the entrepreneurial skills which will help them achieve the quintuple bottom line namely: Social Equity; Environmental Sustainability; Economic Prosperity; Cultural Vitality and Community Well-Being.

The program positively looks forward on facilitating the Internally Displaced Persons (IDP), tribal communities and organized women’s’ group to become self-reliant individuals and better citizen of the country that has the heart on radiating best result of the program towards other needing communities.

Program components:

  • SEC Assistance to Convergence Project (SACoP) - a six-month business plan making for the chosen community where student entrepreneur volunteers, university and industry experts and alumni are the mentors and trainers for the conceptualization and study of the chosen enterprise of the community member participant. It serves as the facilitating and training facility for the study and making of the business plan.
    • Livelihood Capability Action Program (LCAP) - is a 10 months series of lectures and workshops with its benefactor community Xavier Ecoville, Lumbia. To be able to provide to the community members the following: (1) Social Equity (2) Environmental Sustainability (3) Economic Prosperity (4) Cultural Vitality (5) Community Well- Being. The selected participants will be able to empower individuals by trusting their capabilities to deliver results to create livelihood activities that preserve the integrity of the environment, to increase household income thereby improving their quality of life, to uphold income thereby improving their quality of life, to uphold the dignity of work that fosters solid values and ethics and to develop a spirit of oneness and promote a caring attitude among themselves.
  • Talipapa – an acitivty to showcase the products and services of the community where they themselves developed ranging from food and beverages, clothing apparel, accessories, and more. The tool of the program is to give venue to the products of the economic communities to showcase through an exposition of their products or produce like the abaca fiber made products from the non-timber forest product economic community or their fresh products as well as the processed foods and products. The activity will create awareness to the community of the diverse products available in various economic communities; it is a way of marketing not just the product but also the community.
  • Service Learning – This includes activities that offer transformative experiences of university and industry experts, student entrepreneurs and community members. The Service Learning widens the classroom academic experiences.  The partner communities become an extension of the classrooms where class activities become relevant by becoming services to the communities while reflection and evaluation of the entire experience generates a new set of learning.
  • SEPerhero – is an entrepreneurship training for the development of social entrepreneurs.  It aims to inform further the participants about social entrepreneurship.  The participants are composed mainly of SEC Program participants / student entrepreneurs who will be managing social enterprises from the formulation of their business plan to the launching and maturing the social enterprise.  Through SEPerHero, the social entrepreneurs deepen their understanding of social entrepreneurship through experiential learning, coaching and mentoring. Social Entrepreneurs will be exposed to business opportunities through demonstrations, fora and exhibitions.  The SEPerHero Award will cap the series of activities with stories of actual student social entrepreneurs as well as the acknowledgement of the social enterprise whose mission is to create a more just, humane and sustainable world.

It is a program for the innovative, creative and motivated students who aspire to become entrepreneurs by setting up their own business enterprises.  The program provides a unique opportunity for students to own and operate a business on campus. Through the StEP, students apply what they learn in the classroom to their own business enterprise.

The program supports the undergraduate students in any major that lead, or plan to lead, their own business enterprise, envision working for a start-up business, or have an interest in new product development in a new or existing product line. It also supports the implementation of the undergraduate students’ business plan and/or feasibility study; and the development of their start-up business enterprises.   Through a supportive environment, it develops concepts into market ready products and services and at the same time nurtures the business ideas into becoming a sustainable student enterprise.  

Student business owners can supplement the valuable business and entrepreneurial skills they learn in the classroom while gaining real world experience as they manage and lead their own business enterprise through a vast array of hands-on, interactive activities offered by the program, it supports the aspiring student entrepreneurs in growing their skills, building their networks and transforming them into future business tycoons.

Program Components:

  • Ateneo Growing Enterprise Nurturance Development Assistance (AGENDA) – a six-week business plan making for undergraduate students who are not enrolled in courses that include business, marketing and other business-related subjects. It serves as the facilitating and training facility for the study and making of the business plan.
  • Business Incubation – the platform for development of leadership and organizational skills, for crafting entrepreneurial strategies, for consistency in animating teamwork, for demonstration of actual entrepreneurial and managerial duties and responsibilities. Participation encompasses innovation and networking, and develops self-confidence and commercial awareness. Facilities includes:
    • Physical Store Spaces (PSS)
    • Entrepreneurship Loan Fund (ELF)
    • Marketing and Managerial Assistance (MMA)
    • Industry Exposures and Business Opportunity (IEBO)
  • Marketing Execution – every school year, the SEC implements the monthly marketing campaigns that runs for a month for ten consecutive months. These monthly marketing campaigns serves as mall-wide marketing campaign for the SEC Mall and its program participants.
  • Entrepreneurship Development and Trainings – every start of the school year, the SEC distributes TNA (training needs assessment) forms to program participants to scale identified training needs of the students. These trainings and/or seminars are prepared to equipped student entrepreneurs to help them in managing and growing their enterprises. The mentors and/or resource persons are all experts from the industry based on their specific fields.

Formation and Advocacy

  • Participants to the Summer Internship Program (SIP) are incoming 2nd and 3rd year students of the College of Law
  • Resident interns are those enrolled and have residency with Xavier University College of Law
  • Volunteer lawyers are alumni of XU College of law of have undergone training with XUCLA’s SIP.
  • First year students who are enrolled to Human Rights will be exposed to actual human rights issues.

Legal Aid and Case Management

  • Clinical Legal Education Program (CLEP) is the venue for fourth year law students for practical case handling and litigation.
  • Fourth year law students are conducting legal consultations to various communities through outreach.

Legal and Policy Research

  • Fourth year law students with the CLEP are conducting policy inventory, policy analysis, formulating policy outlines, as well as policy recommendations.
  • First year law students who are enrolled to Legal Research can take part in the University’s policy development and policy agenda.

A college-based Research and Social Outreach unit of the School of Business and Management of Xavier University-Ateneo de Cagayan.

It’s three main pillars are Entrepreneurship, Research, and Outreach.

It leans in the Ignatian tradition of education. Thus, its trajectories are the elements of the Ignatian Pedagogical Paradigm namely: context, experience, reflection, evaluation and action.

It pursues activities through multi-disciplinary and collaborative approaches with the curricular departments of the School of Business and Management, partner college-based Research and Social Outreach units, other Xavier University colleges and achools, partners from the industries and the communities, and other higher education insitutions.

It is a hub of innovation and creativity that brings together competent, conscientious and committed young entrepreneurs realizing potential, fostering growth, and building networks for economic liberation, social empowerment, environmental protection and nation building.

It provides undergraduate students academic knowledge, practical experience through enterprising activities, facilities and networks necessary to promote entrepreneurial skills and capabilities; infuse entrepreneurship in various aspects of education, research and outreach.

It seeks to integrate learning and doing, cooperating and competing, and at the same time offers an opportunity to cultivate actual skills needed to plan, build, and develop new enterprises backed by research and service learning.

It will continue to identify and innovate, value and capture opportunities and socially responsible enterprises within the campus and the bigger community.

Entrepreneurship

The SEC Entrepreneurship Programs are the entrepreneurial components of the Student Entrepreneurship Center designed to provide the experiential learning where undergraduate students and community partners discover their potential and enhance their entrepreneurial abilities.

Research

The research component of the SEC pursues the Business Researches for a more in-depth understanding of the business concepts and practices while anticipating to yield knowledge product to contribute to business development.

Outreach

The outreach component of the SEC is conducted through Service Learning through which students who are inclined to work closely with communities can design and practice Social Entrepreneurship. It is also an opportunity to see service products as results of the various involvements with communities.

The overall experience of the Student Entrepreneurship Center challenges the students to draw brighter future for themselves and their communities.
