We are cordially inviting you to the second SDG2 Webinar for 2025 entitled, “Unpacking the BAON Crises: Food Insecurity Amidst Rising Cost of Food"
Food systems play a crucial role in shaping the nutritional and health outcomes of a population.
In the Philippines, various factors—including socio-economic disparities, geographical challenges, and policy inefficiencies—affect access to nutritious and safe food.
This webinar aims to unpack the BAON crises—Budgeting, Accessibility, Overpricing, and Nutritional challenges—as a framework for understanding food insecurity in the context of rising food costs. It will be supported by current data and trends on food inflation, malnutrition, and food access at both national and global levels. It also seeks to showcase policy responses and grassroots initiatives that address food insecurity and price volatility, highlighting innovative and community-driven solutions. Finally, the webinar will engage youth and community voices to share lived experiences and practical strategies for building resilience in the face of food system challenges.
The webinar, which will be on 24 June 2024 (Tuesday) at 2:00 – 5:00 PM (Philippine time), will feature the following speakers:
Mr Jhon Louie Sabal
Chairperson, Department of Economics, Xavier University - Ateneo de Cagayan
Dr Mary Racelis
Professional Lecturer, Department of Sociology and Anthropology, Ateneo de Manila University
The webinar will be moderated by Dr. Philip Arnold Tuaño, Associate Professor at the Department of Economics, Ateneo de Manila University.
